Privacy Policy
JB Technology designs and builds websites, custom software, online booking tools and instant-quote estimators for businesses in Calgary and across Alberta. JB Technology is operated by Jordan Bretiller in Calgary, Alberta ("JB Technology", "we", "us"). This policy explains what personal information we collect through jbtechnology.ca and in the course of our projects, why we collect it, and how we protect it. We follow Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where it applies, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
1. What we collect
When you use the project estimator or book a consultation
The estimator asks for your name and email address, and optionally your phone number, business name and notes. It also records your answers about the project (client type, project type, size or complexity, extras, design style, timeline or care plan), the estimate range it calculated and, if you book a consultation, the date and time you chose. The estimator gives you an estimate number and a QR code that holds that number; the QR code is created in your browser.
When you click "Book my consultation" or "Just email me this estimate", your own email program opens a message to info@jbtechnology.ca with these details. Nothing is sent until you send that email.
Please don't include passwords, payment details or other sensitive information in the notes field.
When you become a client
To deliver a project we may receive your business contact details, the content for your site (text, photos, logos), access to your domain, hosting, email or software accounts, and billing information. Access details are used only for the project and are removed or changed when the work is done, as agreed in your proposal.
When you simply visit the site
Our web host keeps standard server logs (internet address, browser type, pages requested and time) for security and troubleshooting. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not build visitor profiles.
2. Websites and tools we build or host for clients
When we build, host or maintain a website, booking tool or software for a client, the personal information collected through it (for example, the client's customers' booking requests) belongs to that client. We handle it only on the client's behalf, under their instructions and our agreement with them. Each client is responsible for its own privacy policy and for answering requests from its customers; we help them do so. If you used a form on one of our clients' websites, please contact that business first.
3. How we use it
- To reply to your estimate or consultation request and prepare a proposal.
- To design, build, launch, host and support your project.
- To send invoices, keep business records and meet our legal and tax obligations.
- To detect and block spam and abuse of our forms and website.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not add you to marketing lists. We may email you about your request or project; you can ask us to stop non-essential emails at any time.
4. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers who help us run the business or deliver your project, and only what they need:
- Website hosting: our web host stores this website and, for hosting clients, their websites.
- Email: messages sent to info@jbtechnology.ca are delivered through our email provider.
- Project services: domain registrars, hosting companies, scheduling, payment or email services chosen for your project, when your project needs them and you approve.
- Security and delivery: if we use a content delivery or security service (such as Cloudflare), it processes website traffic to block attacks.
- Fonts: this site loads typefaces from Google Fonts, which receives your internet address when the page loads.
- Professional advisors: our lawyer, insurer or accountant when needed.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
5. Storage outside Canada
Some of our service providers (including our email provider, Google Fonts, and services used in client projects) may store or process information in the United States or other countries. While it is there, it may be accessed by courts and authorities of that country under its laws. You can ask us for more information about our providers outside Canada using the contact details below.
6. Cookies and browser storage
- Light or dark mode: if you switch themes, your choice is saved in your browser so the site remembers it.
- Spam protection: the estimator saves the times of your recent submissions in your browser to limit repeat sends. Only timestamps are stored, and they stay on your device.
This site does not set advertising or analytics cookies. You can clear browser storage at any time in your browser settings.
7. How long we keep it
- Estimate and consultation requests that don't lead to a project: deleted within 24 months.
- Project records (proposals, agreements, invoices, correspondence): kept for 7 years after the project ends for tax and legal purposes.
- Account access details you give us for a project: removed or changed when the project or care plan ends.
- Server logs: kept by our host for a limited period for security.
8. How we protect it
This site uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). We use two-factor sign-in on our own systems, strong unique passwords and up-to-date software, and we limit access to client accounts to what each project needs. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta as the law requires.
9. Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent to a use of it. We will reply within 45 days, and we may need to confirm your identity first. If we can't give you access to some information, we will tell you why, unless the law prevents us.
10. Contact and complaints
Our privacy contact is Jordan Bretiller, JB Technology, Calgary, Alberta. Email info@jbtechnology.ca with the subject "Privacy".
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our services or the law change. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change significantly affects how we use your information, we will tell clients by email before it takes effect.
